lantern bay
Hello! I’m a solo indie game designer with a background in Sound Design in video games. I go by Lantern Bay both because I love the atmosphere it invokes, but also because there was a park by the sea where I grew up by the same name.
I entered game development as a sound designer. I’ve had the privilege to work on amazing games and teams like Horizon Zero Dawn, League of Legends, Westworld Awakening, and so many others, in one way or another. I always had a soft spot for games that had really solid atmosphere; games where you could stop and sit for a moment and really feel the vibe of the space around you, through sound, music, art, and lighting. So when I made Lantern Bay Entertainment, that was what I wanted to do: Make atmosphere. Make places that felt just as unique and special when you stood still as when you were moving.
I DMed for D&D for years, even making my own homebrew systems and settings, designing new mechanics from scratch. Eventually, after working in game development for nearly a decade, I realized that I wanted to make a horror game. Horror has a unique ability to make us freeze, whether out of fear or relief. We stop, we listen, and we soak it in. Some of my absolute favorite horror games were games like Amnesia Dark Descent, SOMA, Observer, Scratches, Mortuary Assistant, and Conrad Stephen’s Paranormal Investigators.
Casting Whispers is my debut game title. I wanted to make a linear narrative experience, with some limited replay-ability, and a strong emphasis on a satisfying and meaningful environment. Nobody is alone, and I could not have made it without the wonderful support of those who helped me:
The actors for their amazing work.
The creative sanity-checkers who would let me bounce ideas off them and get feedback while I worked on the game.
The contractors that joined in for parts.
The friends and family that supported me and gave me encouragement when I was at my most exhausted.
To say I’m deeply appreciative of all these people would be an understatement. And to each person that plays Casting Whispers, I deeply hope you enjoy it. I’ve long believed that good entertainment and art should prepare us for the next day. Whether that’s by teaching us new empathy, giving us new skills, introducing us to new thoughts, reflecting our own thoughts back at us, giving us time to connect with friends, or just giving us a period of peace and focus- These things all better prepare us for tomorrow.
So thank you, player. You’ve already made my day better.
