Listen for the Truth. Listen to Survive.

Live Music Recording Day

This last weekend, I gathered with a few people to record the live music soloist for the main theme of Casting Whispers and various parts of the soundtrack! Collaborating with composer Ed Lima and violinist Kim Levin, we gathered at Stage One Audio to lay down the live tracks for the game. Ed Lima has been composing the music for Casting Whispers for last couple months and we were always excited at the idea of recording a live musician for the main theme.

When planning the music for the game, we knew we wanted to take inspiration from mid-century influences like film noir, Hitchcock films, and then late-60s films like 2001 Space Odyssey. Some early ideas included the concepts of recording on tape and doing analog manipulation for the more surreal areas of the game, and that’s still an idea I’d love to play with some day, but it would’ve been biting off more than we could chew with the time remaining to ship at the time. But some fun came from the idea anyways!

But something we did think would be cool would be to record the main theme’s soloist on gear from the 60s/70s, and that was much more attainable! The space at Stage One was perfect and we were off! It was a smooth Saturday recording and I cannot wait to share the results after we’ve finished implementing and mixing!

A huge thanks to Stage One Audio in Laguna Hills. They were great to work with and I hope to return for future projects. A massive thank you to Kim Levin, for her superb violin playing, and to Ed Lima, for his excellent work bringing the unique horror score of Casting Whispers to life.

If you like what we’re doing, please consider following us on socials and if you want to support, the most helpful think you can do is wishlist the game on Steam! Every little bit helps as we start pushing towards launch this fall, and I cannot express my gratitude enough!
